After breakfast in Kunming, take a bus to the 【Nan'en Waterfall of Ailao Mountain】. In summer, during the rainy season, the waterfall roars down like a giant dragon, thundering from the sky with an imposing momentum; during the dry season, the waterfall flows gently, resembling countless dancing flower sashes, with streams leaping down the cliffs and splashing like flying flowers. The period from June to September is the peak water flow season for Nan'en Waterfall, with abundant water, making it the best time for viewing. In the afternoon, visit 【Shimen Gorge】. The creek water is crystal clear, flowing either rapidly or slowly, winding or straight, forming waterfalls, bead curtains, and deep pools, such as Mingyue Pool, Meteor Spring, and Pearl Waterfall, all shining brightly under the sunlight. The cliffs on both sides of the gorge rise steeply, with 36 towering peaks that are elegant and beautiful, such as Waterfall Peak that flows like silk and Cloud-lying Peak that appears and disappears with the clouds. The surrounding area is densely forested, with tall trees resembling coiling dragons and pythons at a high altitude, while lower down, algae, ferns, and moss are layered upon each other, carpeting the rocky walls and cliffs. 14 days and 13 nights in the Ailao Mountains of Yunnan, Nan'en Waterfall, Mojiang, Pu'er, Jingmai Mountain, Menglian, Ximeng, Cangyuan, Lincang, Nanjian, Wenshan.
Day 3 | |
itinerary | |
After breakfast, head to Ailao Mountain to experience the 'Sunrise over the Sea of Clouds at Ailao Mountain.' During autumn and winter, thick fog often envelops the mountains, creating an expansive sea of clouds. The pure white flowing clouds resemble a vast ocean, obscuring the peaks of hills, making them appear and disappear like phantoms. The clouds and mist collide and merge, slowly rolling and undulating, at times resembling raging waves, at other times like light, delicate veils. The sunrise is magnificent: in the early morning, the sun rises slowly, first dyeing the sea of clouds in vivid gold and orange hues, and then the red sun rises above the 'sea' surface, casting a glow that coats the mountains, rivers, and sea of clouds in gold; the entire process is grand and intoxicating. In the afternoon, visit the "Jinshan Primitive Forest." The Jinshan Primitive Forest is shrouded in mist all year round, with more than 200 days of fog each year. Sunlight scatters through the mist droplets in the forest, creating the "Tyndall effect," making the scenery appear mysterious and dreamlike. - Ecological Integrity: The forest has not been logged for a long time, naturally going through life, aging, and death, with a complete ecosystem. Within the depths of the forest, you can see dead trees lying haphazardly, some hanging across valleys or between two trees, forming natural bridges. - Hiking Route: The scenic area is well-developed with a 3.5 km circular trail, and there are also some routes around 1.6 km or 2 km long. The entire route does not have a high elevation, requiring low physical exertion. While walking along the artificially paved path, you can enjoy the beauty of the primitive forest. Then visit the Tropic of Cancer, which is the dividing line between the Northern Temperate Zone and the Tropics. It divides Mojang into two parts, with one-third of the county located north of the Tropic of Cancer, in the Northern Temperate Zone, and two-thirds situated to the south, in the Subtropical Zone. There is a unique astronomical phenomenon: on the summer solstice every year, the sun is directly overhead at the Tropic of Cancer, making the solar altitude angle at noon in Mojang the highest. At this time, the astronomical wonder of 'no shadow at noon' occurs. In the evening, check in at the Mojang hotel. |

The well water is clear and has a sweet taste. It does not overflow or decrease regardless of spring, summer, autumn, or winter. If they want to have a girl, they drink water from the right well. Drinking water from both sides can achieve the dream of having twins. In the afternoon, head upstream to the "Nakoli Tea Horse Ancient Road". As an important stop on the Tea Horse Ancient Road, Nakoli is a place for the caravan to rest, supply, and trade. The cultural heritage of the caravan is profound, and "The Love Song of the caravan" was born here. Nakoli is the origin and distribution center of Pu'er tea, where tourists can experience the production techniques of Pu'er tea and tribute tea, and learn about the entire process of Pu'er tea from picking to making tea cakes. Day 5
itinerary | |
After breakfast, head to Nuogan Ancient Village, which has a long history of over a thousand years. As early as the Tang Dynasty, the ancestors of Nuogan Ancient Village began picking tea from Jingmai Mountain and transporting it to the south to exchange for salt and cloth. The whole village is mainly inhabited by the Dai ethnic group, and the original language, beliefs, and traditional way of life of the Dai ethnic group are fully preserved. It still follows the legacy of the matrilineal society, with women having a higher status and women leading the outside world and men leading the inside world. The marriage system of women recruiting men for marriage is implemented. The ancient village dwellings are mainly traditional Dai style stilt houses, with the bottom floor being an elevated layer used for storing miscellaneous items or raising livestock. The second floor consists of a front porch, a main hall, a sun terrace, etc. The roof is decorated with antique and neat tiles. After lunch, head to the Ancient Tea Garden where ancient tea trees and camphor trees coexist to form an ecosystem of "forest tea symbiosis". Camphor trees provide shade and insect repellent for tea trees, while the diverse species in the forest maintain ecological balance. Tea trees do not require fertilizers or pesticides. Tea quality: Jingmai Mountain ancient tea is a medium to small leaf variety. The tea has a unique aroma, mainly floral and honey fragrance, with a slight bitterness, but can quickly transform into a sweet aftertaste with honey fragrance. Afterwards, we visited the 'Queen Bee Tree', which has been accompanying the Blang tea forest for over 1000 years, reflecting the biodiversity of ancient tea forests and the nature worship of the Blang people. It is a symbol of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The bees on the tree are the chief pollinators of ancient tea trees, which can help pollinate tea trees, improve their growth ability, and control tea pests through honey gathering, flower picking, and insect feeding, playing an important role in the ecological balance of ancient tea forests. Visit the Princess Banyan Tree along the way. The Princess Banyan Tree has a huge body, with branches winding and stretching like dragons and snakes, a canopy resembling a giant umbrella, and roots resembling scattered green threads. According to legend, the ancestor of the Bulang tribe, Pa Ailing, fell in love with the seventh princess of the Dai king. The seventh princess taught the Bulang tribe how to spin threads, weave cloth, cultivate fields, and farm. After being harmed by other sons in law of the Dai king, Princess Seven sadly passed away. Her hair turned into a princess fig, which witnessed the friendship between the Bulang and Dai ethnic groups and guarded the tea fragrance of the ancient village of Jingmai Mountain. Princess Rong is a symbol of the culture and history of the Blang ethnic group, regarded as the guardian of the village gate and the guardian tree. In the hearts of the Blang people, it is a spiritual totem, reflecting their reverence for nature and their belief in the existence of spirits in all things. It consists of eight small pagodas surrounding a main tower, which is 31.68 meters high and each tower is adorned with wind chimes. The entire tower is designed in the form of a diamond throne, with a circular hall at the base of the tower that houses large golden Buddha statues. Around the base platform, there are statues of mascots such as dragons, white cranes, lions, and qilins. There are four square pavilions surrounding the tower base in the attached buildings, located in different directions of east, west, north, and south, respectively. They enshrine the four Heavenly Kings of the East, West, North, and South, symbolizing good weather, abundant harvests, and peace under heaven. Outside the Golden Pagoda, there is a Buddha who specializes in tying ropes for tourists, which is said to prevent diseases and bless safety and smoothness. Then you can see Mengsuo Longtan, surrounded by lush forests and green mountains, with dense primitive forests. The eyes are filled with millennium old trees with twin roots hanging upside down, long vines that are entangled and difficult to break, wet and green moss, as well as typical scenery of tropical rainforests such as trees wrapped in rocks and solitary trees forming forests. The clear water in Longtan shimmers like a mirror, with cranes rising and falling, flocks of wild ducks, and a large number of fish in the lake. Occasionally, children of the Wa ethnic group can be seen climbing trees and shooting fish floating on the water surface with bows and crossbows. In the afternoon, head to Longmo Ye. The Longmo Ye scenic spot is located in the Mengsuo Longtan scenic area, 0.5 kilometers away from the new county town of Ximeng. Here, the forest is quiet and the grass is dense, and the clouds and mist are lingering all year round. Countless water buffalo skulls and weathered "human head stakes" hang on the deep valley, treetops, and cliffs. The Wa people believe in the natural worship that all things have spirits, and they believe that gods exist in all things in the natural world. "Longmo Ye" is regarded as a gathering place for all gods and is a sacred place for the Wa people to communicate with gods and pray for protection. Since ancient times, the Wa people have regarded cows as sacred mascots and worship totems. Cows play an important role in the production and life of the Wa people, and the number of cow heads has become a standard for measuring the wealth of a family or household.
